Beijing: Beijing asked Islamabad to increase efforts to protect Chinese projects and staff in Pakistan and approach the “deep cause of the problem” of terrorism, after an explosion in Karachi on Tuesday, the life of three Chinese nationals.Three Chinese nationals were one of the four people killed in a car explosion on the premises of the University of Karachi on Tuesday. The explosion occurred in a van near the Confucius Institute – a Chinese language teaching center at the University of Karachi. The Chinese state media condemned the explosion and demanded that the Pakistani team made more effort to protect the security of Chinese and staff projects.

“We strongly demand that the Pakistani party make more efforts to protect the security of Chinese institutions, projects and staff in Pakistan, and make these organizations understand that those who try to injure the Chinese will only do destruction”, said the Global Times in an editorial. The newspaper in English argued that China must warn that the forces targeting Chinese nationals in the attacks will be the most difficult.

The Balutchistan Liberation Army (Bla), which has claimed the responsibility of this incident, has repeatedly threatened to launch attacks on Chinese companies and citizens in Pakistan, the newspaper said. The Bla attacked the Chinese consulate in Karachi in 2018 and organized a suicide attack near the port of Gwadar in August 2021, injuring a Chinese national. “We can say that several serious terrorist attacks against Chinese citizens are linked to this group,” said the editorial.

According to the daily newspaper supported by the Chinese Communist Party, Pakistan has strengthened the protection of Chinese nationals but did not address the profound causes of the problem.”We must emphasize that Pakistan has strengthened the protection of Chinese nationals in recent years, but without approaching the deep causes of the problem, there will always be gaps,” he added.
