Article 21 - Get NOC for Bike Online

A Brief Overview

Should a bike owner have to move from one city to another and choose to take their bike with them, they are required to avail of a No Objection Certificate (or NOC) via the Regional Transport Office (or RTO). The NOC helps prove that the bike owner has paid all charges associated with their bike and paid any loans that might be applicable to it and has no dues owed to the RTO.

Why is NOC Important?

A NOC is important for a number of reasons which have each been mentioned below.

With a NOC it is possible to cancel hypothecation with the bank mentioned in the Registration certificate which is required for those that seek to sell their bikes.

Biker owners can cancel and remove hypothecation placed on their bikes with a NOC.

Being in possession of a valid NOC is important as it allows bike owners to abide by the Motor Vehicle Act that stipulates its requirement should they want to transfer their bike to a different city or state.

How to Apply for a NOC Online

Bike owners are expected to follow a specific procedure in order to apply for a NOC for their bike online via an RTO and Bank.

From a bank, bike owners must –

  • Visit the bank’s website and log into their account.
  • They must download the NOC.
  • Should they be unable to download it they must visit a physical branch of the bank.

From the RTO, bike owners must submit an application form and visit the RTOs website. A NOC can be applied for via an RTO online by –

  • Visiting the Parivahan website and selecting the RTO and state.
  • Bike owners must then log on to their account and click on the application for the NOC option.
  • Next, they have to click on “Chassis number / validate registration number” which generates an application form.
  • Filled-in details must be checked and bike insurance information provided.
  • RTO state code must also be added and saved.
  • A payment is then required and a printout of the fee receipt is needed.

Bike owners must then visit the RO with their NOC and fee receipt in addition to the required documents.

It is important to note that a NOC issued by an RTO is valid for a period of 6 months and the price of this certificate depends upon the RTO in question. A NOC issued by a bank is valid for 90 days keeping in mind the bank’s terms and questions and price depends upon the bank in question.

Documents Required to Get a NOC

Bike owners must be in possession of and show the following documents in order to get a NOC.

From an RTO –

  • Form 28 and application
  • RC and insurance policy duplicates
  • Proof of paid valid road tax with a receipt
  • PUC certificate
  • Chassis number and the engine number
  • Signature of the owner of the bike

A bank requires a copy of the RC of the bike in addition to a slew of documents which may vary based on the bank in question.

Conclusion

Bike owners seeking to transfer their bike to a different state or city must obtain a valid NOC in order to do so. Availability of this certificate requires owners to present a valid bike insurance policy which is in fact mandatory to have. Bike owners can use a two-wheeler insurance premium calculator in order to find a policy that suits them best which is available at Finserv MARKETS.
